What is an over comer? (1John
5:5)
Somebody who still believes
in Jesus despite all that the world has thrown at them.
Does the Devil want us to be saved?
No. That is why he
continually tries to deceive us and make us give up and turn away from God. He doesn't
love us. He makes us serve him by tempting us, persecuting us and he holds us in bondage by
reminding us of our sins.
Who is the Prince of this world?
Satan.
Why does the Bible say that we have
overcome the world if we believe?
Satan's aim is to keep us in
bondage so that we can serve him. He doesn't want us to know the truth
about God because this would set us free. He throws lots of darts at us to
make us doubt God and the redemptive power of the cross. He goes about
like a roaring lion trying to scare us away from the truth and he attacks the
things that we love in order to make us doubt God's love and his ability to save
us. He stirs up dissention by telling half truths and frank lies. He
wants to steel, kill and destroy. However, if we continue to love God and
trust him to save us then we have overcome the world, we are saved by God's
grace and are truly his children.
How do we overcome the Devil? (Eph 6:10-20; Rev
12:11)
By putting on the full armor
of God.
By the Blood of the Lamb
By the Word of our testimony
By not loving our soul lives
so much as to shrink back from death.
What does God promise the over
comers in
the following verses?
Revelations 2:7
They will be given the right to eat from the
tree of life which is in the paradise of God.
Revelations 2:11
They will not be hurt at all by
the Second Death.
Revelations 2:17
They will be given some of the hidden manna and
a white stone with a new name written on it known only to those who receive it.
Revelations 2:26
They will be given authority over
the nations and given the morning star.
Revelations 3:5
They will be dressed in white and
never have their name blotted out of the book of life and their names will be
acknowledged before the Father and the angels by Jesus.
Revelations 3:12
They will be made a pillar in
God's temple and remain in it for ever. God will write on them his name as
well as his new name and the name of his city.
Revelations 3:21
They will be given the right to
sit with Jesus on his throne.
Revelations 21:1-7
As sons of God, they will
inherit everything that God intended. God will dwell with them and live
with them. They will be his people and God himself will be with them and
will be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There
will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain. The old order of
things will pass away and God will make everything new.
