The Out Pouring of the Spirit

The out pouring of the Spirit can be illustrated by a little girl pouring water into a glass

The water is like the Holy Spirit and we are like the glass

This type of imagery can also be found in God's Word

In this example, pouring out is clearly related to filling up

The water is not on the glass, but in the glass

When the glass is full, the water could be said to be upon the brim

The brim is like our face or our countenance

When the Holy Spirit is upon us, our countenance changes

The glass is also receiving the water

The first time the Spirit Fills us is Baptism in the Spirit

Baptism in the Spirit is the same as Receiving the Spirit

When the Holy Spirit is upon us, we are said to be full of the Spirit

We receive the Spirit once, but we are topped up many times

Thus, there is only one Baptism but many fillings or comings upon
