Infant Baptism

While the Bible generally speaks of a Believers Baptism

The Bible does not spell out whether or not to Baptize the Children of Believers

Children are clearly able to believe and come to God

This raises some difficult questions

When are Children old enough to decide whether they want to be Baptized and follow Christ ?

AND

Should Baptism be left until they are old enough to decide ?

OR

Should Children of Believers be Baptized when their parents convert (as in Acts) ?

OR

Should Children of Believers be Baptized soon after birth in the same manner that Jews were Circumcised ?

CHILDREN OF BELIEVERS ARE COVERED BY THEIR BELIEVING PARENTS

1Corinthinans 7:14 For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy.

FAITH LIKE LITTLE CHILDREN

Matthew 11:25 At that time Jesus said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.

Matthew 18:3 And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 19:13 Then little children were brought to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked those who brought them.

Matthew 19:14 Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."

Mark 9:37 "Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me."

Mark 10:13 People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them.

Mark 10:14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

Luke 10:21 At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.

Luke 18:16 But Jesus called the children to him and said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

POSSIBLE EXAMPLES OF CHILD OR INFANT BAPTISM IN THE NEW TESTAMENT

Acts 2:38-39 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.  The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off--for all whom the Lord our God will call."

Acts 11:14 He will bring you a message through which you and all your household will be saved.'

Acts 16:13-15 On the Sabbath we went outside the city gate to the river, where we expected to find a place of prayer. We sat down and began to speak to the women who had gathered there.  One of those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul's message.  Then she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. "If you consider me a believer in the Lord," she said, "come and stay at my house." And she persuaded us.

Acts 16:31-4 They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved--you and your household."   Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house.   At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his family were baptized.   The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God--he and his whole family.

Titus 1:6 An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient.

WE ARE SAVED BY FAITH IN CHRIST - NOT BY BAPTISM ITSELF

Children must continue in the faith as Adults or they will not be saved

Mark 16:16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Jn 1:12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God

John 3:15 that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him."

John 5:24 "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.

John 6:40 For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."

John 6:47 I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life.

1Corinthians 1:21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.

JEWISH CHILDREN WERE CIRCUMCISED ON THE EIGHTH DAY

Genesis 21:4 When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God commanded him.

Leviticus 12:3 On the eighth day the boy is to be circumcised.

Luke 1:59 On the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to name him after his father Zechariah,

Luke 2:21 On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise him, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he had been conceived.

John 7:22 Yet, because Moses gave you circumcision (though actually it did not come from Moses, but from the patriarchs), you circumcise a child on the Sabbath.

John 7:23 Now if a child can be circumcised on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you angry with me for healing the whole man on the Sabbath?

Acts 7:8 Then he gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision. And Abraham became the father of Isaac and circumcised him eight days after his birth. Later Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob became the father of the twelve patriarchs.

Acts 21:21 They have been informed that you teach all the Jews who live among the Gentiles to turn away from Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children or live according to our customs.

Philippians 3:5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee;
