Jesus’ death takes away sin
for all time

  • Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.

  • But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God
2
However….

  •    No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.
3
What’s more…

  •    No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.

4
So…
  • If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.
5
Paul says…
  • I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.

  • For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing.
6
When Jesus went to wash the disciple’s feet….
  • Peter said,
  •    “No.  you shall never wash my feet.“
  • Jesus answered, "Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.“
7

8
Foot washing symbolizes ongoing forgiveness of sins
  •    Jesus replied, "You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand."
9
"Then Peter came to Jesus..."
  • Then Peter came to Jesus and asked,

  • "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?"
10
"Jesus answered,"
  • Jesus answered,

  • "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.

11
"Mat 6:14"
  • Mat 6:14  For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

  • Mat 6:15  But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
12
"Luke 6:37"
  • Luke 6:37  "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
  • Luke 17:3   So watch yourselves. "If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him.
